Sightseeing in Hawaii isn’t complete without a visit to the two symbolic “bookends” of the Pacific War – the USS Arizona where the war began and the decks of the USS Missouri where the Japanese formally surrendered, now side by side in Oahu’s Pearl Harbor. The E Noa USS Arizona, Missouri & Punchbowl Crater Tour is led by an E Noa guide whose knowledge of and appreciation for these historic sites makes this “memorial tour” an experience to remember.
“Took the Pearl Harbor and USS Missouri tour
and the day was incredible.”
It’s early morning, and as you head towards Honolulu’s infamous Pearl Harbor your E Noa tour guide provides helpful island history and background on what you’ll see.
At the Pacific Historic Parks Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, exhibits, detailed replicas, and media displays tell the story of World War II and the attack on Pearl Harbor and its aftermath, bringing it intimately to life. On the USS Arizona Memorial, built over the remains of the sunken ship, you pause to reflect on the familiar date of the attack in December 1941.
Aboard “Mighty Mo”, the USS Missouri, you see a copy of the signed surrender document that ended the war, and learn about the battleship’s wartime history. You then have opportunity to visit the USS Oklahoma Memorial, which stands as a monument honoring those who lost their lives on that ship during the attack.
A drive through the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl Crater completes this truly unique Oahu tour. Here, 38,000 markers pay tribute to the men and women of the US Armed Forces who have sacrificed for their country, and your E Noa guide shares insightful details about the site and this beautiful island’s place in history.
